The Income Tax Department Office was developed as a design proposal for the entrance and lobby zones of the Bengaluru ITO Department. The intent was to create a space that communicates authority, dignity, and institutional character while remaining warm and welcoming for everyday public interaction.
The design draws from an old-school Indian government office aesthetic, using a dark wood theme to bring a sense of permanence, order, and formality to the interiors. This traditional material language is balanced with a modern touch through cleaner detailing, refined surfaces, and a more contemporary spatial treatment.
The existing irregular form of the building was approached as a design opportunity rather than a limitation. Through a careful play of flooring patterns, ceiling elements, and directional design cues, the geometry of the space was accentuated and organized, allowing the lobby to feel intentional, composed, and visually strong.
The proposal reimagines the government office lobby as a space that is rooted in institutional identity, yet elevated through thoughtful modern design.
